Asus ZenBook UX310UQ-GL379T: Our Opinion

I needed a notebook that was really portable because I often travel for work, and this notebook was a good choice. It’s very light and you can hold it with one hand. Some people have complained about the display, but from the tests that I’ve done the display offers good viewing angles and doesn’t strain your eyes.

I also tested it with CAD and I had no visual problems despite the 13-inch display. If you use it in the office or at home you can always connect it to an external monitor (I don’t feel the need, but if you have to use it for many hours at a time, I would recommend it)

Start-up is very quick (about 6-7 seconds) and it’s the same case with particularly heavy programs (Matlab, Autocad). The battery life is excellent and under normal working conditions (Office, navigation, and web browsing) it can last for about 8 hours; I haven’t yet had the chance to try it under strain.

It’s especially recommended for students or people who have to move frequently and want to rely on a lightweight computer with excellent battery life and performance.

The fan is barely audible. It’s like a little background noise showing that the notebook is on. The only time you hear it (but only for a few minutes and then the noise drops) is when you install programs or when you put it on charge, but it’s nothing dramatic.

Asus ZenBook UX310UQ-GL379T: Review

The display of this notebook is a 13-inch TFT with Full HD resolution. Ideal for use on the move or for classic office work. However, if you’re intending to use it for professional photography it’s not very suitable. It would be more appropriate to use an IPS display that offers more realistic colours.

The maximum aperture of the display is about 125 °, perfect for resting it on your legs and working on it on the move. The opaque display in outdoor use that prevents annoying light reflections is really great.

Using it inside, especially on white backgrounds, you can glimpse a kind of “grain” due to the TFT panel. By way of a comparison, it’s like the opaque film applied on a smartphone, the effect is identical. Obviously on a phone the effect is more easily noticed because it’s held closer to the eyes when in use.

The performance of this Asus ZenBook UX310UQ-GL379T is excellent. Let’s start by saying that its battery life is among the best. Using it for office work, surfing the Internet with Chrome, using Office Suite, the battery time is around 8 hours, with the screen always at 30% and keyboard brightness at minimum or off. Bluetooth always off and Wi-Fi always active.

It’s especially recommended for office work and light graphics (Photoshop and CAD). If you need to do 3D rendering, it’s better to look at other laptops. You can consult our guide to buying the best notebooks to get an idea.

The processor is an Intel i7-7500U, a dual-core energy-saving model released to the market in the third quarter of 2016. Its clock frequency is 2.7 Ghz, while in turbo mode it reaches 3.50 Ghz. Very small TPD, in fact it’s only 15W, which allows you to extend the battery life of this ultrabook.

There’s a video card integrated with the processor (Intel® HD Graphics 620) which allows you to perform all those less demanding tasks such as watching movies or surfing the Internet. There’s also a dedicated video card, the nVidia Geforce GT940 MX 2Gb. This card behaves very well with software like AutoCAD, DIALux or others dedicated to university work.

Another strong point of this laptop is the RAM. In fact, there’s an 8 GB DRR4 in one bank and another free one which allows you to make a nice upgrade bringing this Asus ZenBook UX310UQ-GL379T up to 16Gb of RAM.

Thanks to the spacious 512 GB SSD, boot times are very low, as well as when starting up the programs that we installed above, making it a pleasure to use.

The USB ports are excellent, it has 2x USB 2.0 – 1x USB 3.0 – 1x USB 3.1.

A notebook that combines portability with excellent performance. Recommended purchase.
